Manzi Wa Kibera: Being kept is not a sin, a given 50ksh is sweeter than your 50ksh.

In an interview with SPM Buzz, she emphasized that her life took a positive turn when a 67-year-old man relocated her from Kibera to a more favorable environment.

Despite ongoing rumors about their divorce, the elderly man continues to cover her monthly rent, even though they have never cohabited. She disclosed that there was a time when the man attempted to withhold rent payment, prompting her to consider legal action against him.

“He still pays the rent; who else should pay? Seriously, he should be alert by the end of the month. I call him and inform him if the landlord is bothering me; my phone is constantly ringing. In the first three months, everything was fine, but at some point, he tried to be difficult, and I had to contemplate taking legal action. We have never lived together; he just comes when I am heading to his place,” stated the woman from Kibera.

She further acknowledged that the man takes care of everything for her, asserting that being provided for is more satisfying than independently managing every aspect of her life.

“There is no shame in being provided for; if you get free things, accept them. Nairobi is tough; the president has made it even tougher, so we must find ways to survive out here. A woman has to eat from both sides; from her man and from her business. There’s no money as sweet as that from a man, even if it’s just 50 shillings, it feels delightful. Fifty shillings given for free is sweeter than the 50 earned through labor,” highlighted the woman from Kibera.
