The atmosphere at Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai in Narok County on March 27, 2024, was laden with grief as a multitude of individuals, including family, friends, colleagues, and dignitaries, congregated to bid farewell to Rita Tinina, a beloved figure in Kenyan media.
Tragically, just a day before her 46th birthday, Rita succumbed to severe pneumonia at her residence in Nairobi.
Among those paying their respects were Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina and his counterpart from Kitui County, who stood in solidarity with Rita’s grieving loved ones.
In a heartfelt condolence message, Senator Ledama pledged to support Rita Tinina’s daughter’s education, given the absence of Rita’s parents, and offered his unwavering support to Robert Nagila, Rita’s partner.
He emphasized the importance of unity in times of sorrow and commended the media fraternity for their steadfast support during this difficult period.
“We have heard numerous tributes today recounting Rita’s deeds. To the community, stay strong. To Malkia, we are here for you. We will provide assistance. Many words are spoken, but Robert, rest assured, we will stand by the young girl. I personally undertake to fund her secondary education since Rita’s parents preceded her,” stated Senator Ledama.
Former journalist turned Senator Erick Wambua led the assembly in a moving rendition of the hymn “It Is Well,” offering solace and reassurance amidst the profound sorrow.
“I extend my deepest condolences to Rita Tinina’s family. That hymn was a special dedication to them. Though Rita has departed, I assure you that in due time, God will bring beauty from this pain for each one of you.”
“To my colleagues in the media fraternity, I stand here as a seasoned journalist. I had the privilege to work with Rita at NMG, and her loss is deeply felt within our community. My heartfelt sympathies go out to her family, my own, and to the people of Ukambanni and Dr. Stephen Kalonzo. He has expressed his condolences to the family and is organizing a visit,” added Senator Wambua.
