On Wednesday May 11th, Balenciaga launched a new campaign for their roughed up sneakers with a price tag of $1,850/Ksh214,785. The French luxury fashion house announced that only 100 pairs of these “extra destroyed” sneakers will be available for purchase.
Eric Omondi caused a stir on social media when he showed off his pair of Balenciaga destroyed sneakers. This caught the attention of radio host Maina Kageni, who announced on his breakfast show on Classic 105 that he had ordered two pairs of Balenciaga sneakers.
It is believed that Maina has ordered the non-limited edition, less roughed up versions which are being sold on the Balenciaga website for $495/Ksh57,494 and $625/Ksh72,593 depending on the specific style.
Maina’s order can be seen as a move to silence Eric Omondi’s bragging about his expensive shoes. It appears that Maina has also flexed his financial muscles to show that he can also afford luxury items.
