Nairobi woman Pours Boiling Cooking oil on Neighbour who copied her hairstyle

A woman is currently facing charges of inflicting serious harm on her neighbor, accused of pouring scalding cooking oil on her and dislocating her jaw, all stemming from allegations of hairstyle imitation.

As reported by NTV on January 16, Catherine Wanjiru stands accused of burning Sherry Nyanchomba in their Dandora residence in Nairobi. The incident unfolded when Nyanchomba greeted Wanjiru at the gate late one night upon her return home. Allegedly, the suspect confronted her, accusing her of copying her hairstyle by coloring her hair in a similar shade.

Before the situation escalated into a physical altercation, Wanjiru purportedly went to a nearby fish vendor’s stand, retrieved hot oil, and poured it on Nyanchomba’s face.

The confrontation intensified, resulting in the alleged dislocation of the victim’s teeth when Wanjiru reportedly forcefully gripped and tugged on her jaw. Neighbors intervened and managed to separate the two women.

Following the incident, Nyanchomba sought medical attention at a nearby facility and was subsequently directed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. After receiving treatment, she reported the incident to the police.

Following an investigation, Wanjiru was summoned and taken into custody. At the Makadara Law Courts, Senior Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku accused her of violating Section 234 of the Penal Code by causing grievous harm.

Wanjiru denied the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh.50,000, with an alternative cash bail of Ksh.20,000. The case is scheduled for mention on March 6, and the hearing is set to commence on May 30.
