Guy stabs his beautiful girlfriend to death for cheating on him

A high court has recently handed down a verdict in the case of 24-year-old Nkateko Masha, sentencing him to a 15-year prison term, with 5 years suspended, for the murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend, Gontse Malatji.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) North West Division’s Regional spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, disclosed this information in a statement on February 28, 2024, noting that Masha has been deemed unfit to possess a firearm.

The conviction stems from an incident on November 16, 2021, at Stinkwater near Moretele, where Masha confronted Malatji at his residence, accusing her of infidelity based on images he had seen on Facebook. An argument ensued, leading to Malatji deciding to end the relationship. Masha was granted R1000 bail, subsequently pleading guilty to the crime.

During the sentencing, state prosecutor Mpho Matlala emphasized the prevalence of femicide in the country and argued that being in a relationship does not justify resorting to violence. Magistrate Gilbert Sono acknowledged these concerns but also considered Masha’s youth and status as a first-time offender, deeming him a candidate for rehabilitation.

Dr. Rachel Makhari, the Director of Public Prosecutions in the North West, commended the efforts of the prosecutor and Constable Kekana from the South African Police Service in ensuring justice for the victim’s family. She urged community organizations to bolster educational programs addressing gender-based violence and femicide.

The tragic incident unfolded when, after an argument, Masha decided to take drastic action while Malatji was asleep in his outside room. Armed with a knife, he fatally stabbed her. Following the heinous act, Masha attempted suicide in a nearby bush by cutting his hands with the same knife but ultimately abandoned the attempt. He returned home, reported his actions, and surrendered to the police.
