Dandora Woman Selling Her One-Month-Old Baby for Ksh 40,000 due to Poverty

In the heart of Dandora, Nairobi, a distressed single mother named Eunice Awino finds herself in police custody, having made the heart-wrenching choice to sell her one-month-old baby for KSh 40,000.

The arrest was orchestrated by Detective Jane Mugo, Africa’s top spy, adding a layer of complexity to the unfolding story.

Awino, with tears streaming down her face, detailed the dire circumstances that led her to this desperate act. The abandonment of responsibility by the baby’s father, combined with her own struggles as an anemic mother, pushed her to a breaking point. Her pregnancy had required extended stays in the hospital, and the challenges of providing rent, food, and clothing for her two other children weighed heavily on her shoulders.

Faced with an overwhelming burden of responsibility, Awino felt compelled to take what seemed like the only available option for relief – selling her newborn.

“I did not deliberately choose to sell the baby. I was grappling with numerous challenges from the time I became pregnant. Being anemic meant spending most of my time in the hospital. Additionally, providing for rent, food, and clothing for myself and my other two children became an enormous challenge,” Awino explained, expressing her guilt in court.

In a twist of fate, Awino’s path crossed with Gati Christopher, a Tanzanian woman grappling with abuse in her marriage and the anguish of infertility. Christopher, seeking solace in the prospect of motherhood, purchased Awino’s baby without adhering to the legal adoption process.

Christopher, aged 14, bemoaned the relentless societal pressure she faced for being childless, which drove her to make a decision she now deeply regrets.

“In Tanzania, buying children is illegal. I am willing to swear in the name of God that I was unaware of the proper adoption process,” she solemnly confessed.

Detective Jane Mugo, renowned as Africa’s top spy, became involved in the case while investigating the disappearance of Samuel Hans Omondi, an autistic boy missing since 2020. Mugo’s relentless determination led her to discover that Omondi was allegedly kidnapped and sold to a family in Tanzania. The ongoing investigation aims to locate the boy and provide closure to his shattered family.

In an unexpected turn of events, Detective Mugo extended her compassion beyond her professional obligations. Expressing concern for Awino’s vulnerable children left behind due to their mother’s detention, Mugo revealed her plans to personally shop for them, urging people not to judge her solely based on her role as a spy.
