Lecturer beats and slaps female student for refusing to switch off her phone in his class

A male lecturer at Dr. Ariyo, reportedly engaged in a confrontation with a student who purportedly refused to turn off their phone during a class session.

The incident occurred during a lecture in the Department of Electrical Engineering, where a disagreement ensued between the lecturer and the student, escalating into a heated confrontation.

A video circulating on social media, shared by the victim’s classmates, captured the lecturer admonishing the student for holding a phone and instructing her to switch it off.

The footage reveals that the student resisted the directive, prompting the lecturer to physically intervene in an attempt to forcefully retrieve the phone. After successfully taking the phone, Dr. Ariyo was observed striking the student on the head with his fist, eliciting shocked reactions from other students witnessing the incident.

In the video, the lecturer asserted his authority, proclaiming to the female student, “You can’t be bigger than me. Even if you are a VC’s son, I won’t take it from you. Switch off the phone now! Switch off the phone!”

Despite the student’s defiance, she held onto her phone and questioned the angered teacher, asking, “What did I do?” before he managed to take the phone from her.

It was reported that the female student sustained injuries, with alleged bleeding from the mouth, and her Samsung phone was said to have been damaged in the altercation.

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Abiodun Olarewaju, confirmed the incident when contacted, acknowledging the alleged physical assault. He stated that the university’s management had intervened and invited both parties for an investigation into the matter.
