Jones Nyaberi: Boda Boda Rider Who Used Sh. 60,000 in Savings to Buy a Secondhand Motorcycle Now Owns Two 3-Bedroom Houses Worth Sh. 1.5 Million

Upon completing his accounting diploma and grappling with the stark reality of unemployment, Jones Nyaberi opted to return to his hometown in Kisii. Fueled by determination to secure a livelihood, he delved into cabbage farming, pooling together savings amounting to Sh. 60,000.

This initial capital became the catalyst for his entrepreneurial journey.

With a vision for a brighter future, Nyaberi utilized his savings to acquire a secondhand motorcycle from a friend, marking the commencement of his career as a boda boda rider.

Little did he anticipate that this decision would herald a transformative chapter in his life.

As he navigated the lively streets, Nyaberi encountered a client who would alter the trajectory of his journey.

The client, an employee of a Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO), recognized Nyaberi’s potential and encouraged him to start saving. This seemingly simple advice planted the seeds for a future marked by financial stability.

Determined, Nyaberi embarked on a savings journey, allocating a portion of his earnings with each ride. He initially focused on laying the groundwork for his own dwelling.

However, his priorities shifted when he discovered that his parents were residing in a deteriorating mud-walled house. Temporarily putting his personal dream on hold, Nyaberi redirected his efforts towards constructing a more comfortable home for his parents.

The completion of his parents’ house evolved into a labor of love for Nyaberi. The sacrifices he made and the dedication he exhibited in ensuring their well-being underscored his profound commitment to family. Only after accomplishing this noble endeavor did he resume the construction of his own residence.

Fast forward three years, and Nyaberi proudly stands in front of his three-bedroom house.

“It is a three-bedroom house with a store, kitchen, and living room. It has cost me Sh. 1.5 million so far,” he states.

Nyaberi attributes his success to a combination of hard work, discipline, and the financial acumen acquired during his accounting diploma.

Beyond his personal milestones, Nyaberi has become a respected figure in his community.

“In this business, I’ve learned that trust is paramount. Clients trust me to handle significant sums of money, and I’ve never failed them,” he affirms.
