In Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, a 37-year-old woman was recently convicted for the murder of her husband, an incident dating back three years. The verdict was delivered by Judge Reuben Nyakundi of the Eldoret High Court on May 8, 2024. The prosecution presented compelling circumstantial evidence, leaving little doubt as to her guilt.
According to court documents, Winnie Maina fatally stabbed her husband on August 22, 2022, at their home in Elgon View estate. Despite her defense’s argument of provocation, Judge Nyakundi concluded that the evidence overwhelmingly indicated Winnie’s deliberate action in ending her husband’s life.
In his ruling, the judge emphasized the slim chances of the husband’s survival after being stabbed in the heart. The victim, Wycliffe Miriti, a 33-year-old Senior Logistics Officer at an international beverage company, tragically passed away while undergoing treatment at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret. The incident occurred following a night of drinking.
According to police reports, Winnie rushed her critically injured husband to the hospital in their family car, but he could not be saved, succumbing to the three knife wounds upon arrival at MTRH.
The sentencing of Winnie Maina is slated for June 3.
