Abel Mutua Narrates How He Went Broke Just After His Wedding

Abel Mutua, also known as Mkurugenzi, is a well-known film producer and entertainer who recently shared his personal story of financial hardship. He recounts how he proposed to his now-wife, Judy Nyawira, while stuck in traffic, and how their wedding plans quickly escalated from a simple ceremony to a costly white wedding. However, shortly after getting married, Abel realized that he had spent all of his savings and was left broke.

He explains that at the time, he was working at Citizen TV, but decided to participate in the Top Comic show on NTV, with the hopes of winning the prize of KSh 1 million. Unfortunately, he finished as the runner-up, leaving him with only KSh 40,000 to support his young family. He struggled to find employment and had to rely on the help of friends and family.

Abel believes that becoming a parent at a young age can have both positive and negative effects, depending on one’s level of mental preparedness and financial resources. As he struggled to make ends meet, his wife Judy became the primary breadwinner for their family.

However, things began to turn around for Abel and his business partner, Philip, when they won a contract to produce a film for a South African company. Although they faced some losses, this marked the start of their production company, Philit, which has since grown to become a successful production house.
