Captain Otoyo, a well-known radio presenter and comedian, had a difficult upbringing. Like many celebrities in the country, he faced challenges with school fees and food security for his family.
His mother worked hard to provide a decent life for her children, including starting a successful business selling illicit brew. In a recent interview with Churchill Show- The Journey, Otoyo admitted that he was part of the management team for his mother’s changaa business.
Despite performing well in his KCPE exams, Otoyo had to stay home due to lack of school fees. He revealed that he was always a dedicated student, with the goal of having a bright future.
Otoyo also spoke about the dangers they faced, with KANU youth wingers posing a threat to their business. They had a special whistle to alert customers and their mother to hide the illicit brew when they saw these dangerous individuals.
Despite the challenges, the community rallied around Otoyo, helping to raise his school fees through barter trade and auctioning off their property.
Now, after overcoming the obstacles life threw his way, Otoyo is proud of the fruits of his labor and hard work.
