Vincent Odera: Student Converts Human Waste To Electricity, Currently Powering 6 Households

Vincent Odera is a young student who has made a significant impact in his community by converting human waste into electricity. Currently, his innovative project is powering six households in his neighborhood.

Odera’s project began as a school project in which he was tasked with finding a solution to the problem of waste management in his community. He noticed that there was a lack of proper sewage systems and that the waste was often left to accumulate in open areas, posing a health hazard to the community.

Inspired by this problem, Odera came up with the idea of using anaerobic digestion to convert the waste into methane gas, which could then be used to generate electricity. He used a simple biogas digester made from a plastic drum and a pipe to capture the methane gas.

The process was not without its challenges, as Odera had to overcome the initial skepticism of his community, who were not convinced that such a project was possible. However, he persevered and was eventually able to demonstrate the effectiveness of his project through a series of successful trials.

Today, Odera’s project is providing electricity to six households in his community, and he has received recognition and support from various organizations and individuals. His project has not only helped to improve the living conditions of his community, but it has also had a positive environmental impact by reducing the amount of waste that is left to decompose in open areas.

Odera is a first year student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Bondo pursuing Information Technology (IT).

Odera’s project is a testament to the potential of young people to make a difference in their communities. It serves as an inspiration to others who are looking to find innovative solutions to local problems.
