Intresting Story Of Machachari’s Actor Malik Lemuel (Govi): “I Was A Matatu Tout At Only Five Years Old.”

Contrary to prevailing beliefs, Malik Lemuel, popularly known as Govi from the well-acclaimed TV series Machachari, did not experience a fortunate start in life. His fame stems from his role in the enduring television show Machachari.

Govi’s origins and upbringing are rooted in challenging circumstances. In a recent interview with Jalang’o on his YouTube channel, Govi disclosed that he grew up in the slums of Mukuru Kwa Njenga, specifically in the Wangige and Imara Daima informal settlements.

He narrated, “I was born in 2000 in Kenyatta Hospital, a public hospital. During my childhood, we frequently changed residences. My dad would take us to his cousins, face eviction, and the cycle continued. We moved from Wangige to Imara Daima and finally settled in South B. Our journey was fraught with struggles until my dad secured a job in the UAE, and the Machachari opportunity materialized,” Govi shared.

One striking revelation was Govi’s account of working as a matatu tout in South B at the tender age of five due to financial hardships at home. He explained, “When I was five, I was a Makanga at South B, and after school, we would head to the matatu stages to assist in filling up the matatus. My cousin was the one guiding me through the process.”

In the candid interview, the former Machachari child star detailed his path to stardom, mentioning his roles in Makutano Junction, Machachari, and other films. Govi also disclosed that his foray into the industry began with a voice-over for Famila Uji at the age of two. “Things took a positive turn for my family and me after the Machachari gig,” he added.

Contrary to earlier speculations, Govi clarified in the interview that he was not dismissed from the show but had voluntarily departed.

At 22, Govi is now a university student, pursuing a degree in International Relations. In a recent Q&A session on his Instagram, he created headlines by expressing openness to dating older women. Additionally, he has ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing his real estate company, Dutch House Designers, specializing in designing and selling real estate. Govi also co-owns Dilip Tours and Travel, a collaborative tour firm.

While Govi has diversified his pursuits, he hasn’t entirely abandoned acting. He made appearances in Flash Squad, an educational teen TV series broadcast on Akili Kids, the first and only dedicated local free-to-air children’s television channel.
