I Quit Lecturer Job To Be a Gospel Musician – Pst. Timothy Kitui

Dr. Timothy Kitui Wanyonyi is a multi-faceted individual who has made a name for himself in various fields. With a background in music, education, and consulting, Dr. Kitui has proven to be a force to be reckoned with.

Born on September 24, 1982, Dr. Kitui is a Kenyan Christian gospel singer, school principal, events MC, management consultant, researcher, and pastor at JCC Thika town. He has been a lecturer for various universities and has served as the Principal Consultant for Trinity Management Consultants for over a decade. Currently, he is a Talent Envoy to the Federation of Gifted and Talented Children and the chair of the Cultural and Gospel Music Expo.

Dr. Kitui’s love for music started at a young age when his parents took him to the Anglican church. He led choirs in Sunday school and eventually became a church choir leader and parish choirmaster. As he progressed through his education, he excelled in music festivals and traditional instrument playing. He eventually formed a choir team, The Sanctuary Echoes, and recorded his first album in 2003.

Dr. Kitui’s primary instrument is the Litungu, a traditional lyre played by the Luhya ethnic group of Kenya. He sings his songs predominantly in Luhya and goes by the brand “Litungu Gospel Vibes”.

Despite facing resistance from family and peers when he decided to leave his job as a lecturer to pursue music full-time, Dr. Kitui remained determined. He has since received numerous awards, including the RIGA Awards South Africa – Male Gospel Artist of the Year in Africa (Traditional Category 2016), Safaricom Groove Awards – Song of the Year Western Counties (2017, 2016, and 2015), Mwafaka Awards – The Most Promising Artist of the Year (2015) and Video of the Year (2016), and Extreme Teeniez Awards (2017).

Dr. Kitui’s message to those looking up to him is simple: everyone has a talent and should live it and live for it. Discover your purpose and pursue it with passion and determination.
