Ugandan musician-turned-politician Bobi Wine has praised Kenya for its approach to government appointments, contrasting it with practices in neighboring countries. Wine highlighted recent controversies in Uganda and Tanzania, where leaders allegedly appointed their own children to government positions.
“I hear that President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed her own child to a government position, and Museveni has done the same on his side. But in Kenya, you must have proper qualifications first; and that’s what I admire about that country. May God bless Kenya,” Bobi Wine remarked.
Wine’s comments have sparked discussion across East Africa, with many noting his admiration for Kenya’s emphasis on meritocracy. By emphasizing qualifications over nepotism, Kenya, according to Wine, sets a standard for transparency and fairness in governance.
Political analysts say Wine’s remarks are timely, as governance and public sector appointments continue to attract scrutiny across the region. His praise also positions Kenya as a model for neighboring nations striving to balance leadership accountability with public trust.
Bobi Wine’s statement has been welcomed by many Kenyans who view merit-based appointments as essential for national development and good governance.
