Ubert Angel, an influential diplomat and self-proclaimed prophet from Zimbabwe, has been implicated in an Al-Jazeera undercover investigation on gold smuggling and money laundering operations. In the investigation, Angel admitted that he could potentially launder up to $1.2 billion using his Diplomatic Passport.
Earlier this year, Angel was hosted in Nigeria by Apostle Johnson Suleman of the Omega Fire Ministries. He currently holds the position of special envoy and ambassador-at-large to Europe and the Americas, appointed by Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa in 2021.
During the investigation, Angel repeatedly admitted that Mnangagwa was aware of his plans. He even offered to use his diplomatic cover to smuggle large sums of money into Zimbabwe, as part of a gold smuggling and laundering operation.
Angel was confident that he could use his influence and connections to the government to carry out his schemes. He claimed that he could call the president and put him on speakerphone to prove his point.
Apart from his involvement in the investigation, Angel is known for his belief in his abilities to heal the sick and predict the outcomes of football matches and elections. His church has branches in almost 15 countries around the world.
