Gigiri police officer dies in accident along Uhuru Highway

Early Saturday morning, tragedy struck as a police officer stationed at Gigiri Police Station lost his life in a fatal accident along Uhuru Highway in Nairobi. Police Constable Shadrack Otieno Genga, the deceased, was en route from City Centre to Mlolongo in a Subaru Legacy when the incident occurred.

Reports indicate that as Constable Genga approached Lusaka Roundabout, he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and overturn. The force of the crash ejected him onto the tarmac, where he suffered severe head injuries and tragically passed away almost immediately.

Upon receiving the distressing news, officers from Makadara Police Station swiftly responded, moving Constable Genga’s body to Chiromo Hospital mortuary for further procedures.

This heartbreaking incident comes on the heels of another loss within the police force, as Corporal Shadrack Mwendwa perished in a separate road accident along the Marsabit-Moyale Highway. The police report indicates that Corporal Mwendwa, along with seven other passengers, was traveling in a police vehicle towards Moyale from Marsabit when the accident occurred around 4:30 pm.

The vehicle lost control near Kambi Nyoka area, veering off the road and landing sideways, resulting in Corporal Mwendwa’s instantaneous demise. Fortunately, the other occupants survived, albeit with injuries, underscoring the unpredictability and dangers officers face in the line of duty.
