Families of 2 Men Gunned Down Near Police Station in Buru Buru speak

The families of two individuals, among the four fatally shot in Buru Buru Phase 5 Estate on Tuesday, have provided insights into the final moments of their loved ones.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, the mother of one of the deceased disclosed that her son, a second-hand clothing trader, known as a mitumba seller, operated both in the Umoja area and online.

The day before the tragic incident, the merchant had spent time at his mother’s residence, where he prepared lunch for the entire family. During this visit, he also discussed plans for his daughter’s upcoming first birthday celebration.

After addressing these family matters, he left the house, oblivious to the fact that those would be his last moments with his loved ones.

It turned out to be the final time the family saw him alive. Attempts to reach him the next day proved unsuccessful, but no one suspected the tragic outcome.

“I saw the incident on the news the following day and I was shocked but did not think much of it; I went on with my day,” recounted the mother.

During an emotional interview, his wife called on law enforcement officials to apprehend those responsible for the murder. She shared the challenges of breaking the news to their daughter about her father’s passing.

On the other hand, the mother of the second deceased individual revealed that she last saw her son on December 23 after providing him with working capital for his mitumba business.

When she attempted to contact him a few days later, he did not answer. Initially assuming he was busy, she anticipated a callback, which never came.

Regrettably, she received the devastating news of her son’s demise, leaving her in shock.

Expressing her grief, she questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident. “Everyone makes a mistake, and if there was a problem, there is the law. If they had wronged anyone, why couldn’t the matter be taken to the police? They had not stolen the car, and no gun was found in the vehicle, so why spray them with bullets?” she lamented.

Both families urged relevant authorities, led by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, to intervene and uncover the mystery of how the men were killed just a few meters from the Buru Buru Police Station.

Despite police denying the involvement of security officers in the murder, the families are troubled by the absence of police personnel from the nearby station when the gunshots were fired at 2:30 am.

Ongoing investigations are underway, with the remaining two bodies awaiting identification. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
