Alex Chamwada: When I Left Citizen tv I Was Broke but very Famous

Alex Chamwada, a leading Kenyan journalist and CEO of Chams Media Group, recently shared the story of his difficult path to success before founding his own media company.

Having worked with several top media houses in Kenya, including Citizen TV, Chamwada reached a point where he felt the urge to take control of his own narrative. The repetitive nature of the media cycle made him long for the freedom to pursue his own journalistic passions. This desire for creative independence led him to resign from Citizen TV in 2014 and embark on the journey of establishing Chams Media.

At the time, Chamwada was facing severe financial difficulties, compounded by significant debt. This strain stemmed from the extensive medical bills incurred in a desperate attempt to save his father, who unfortunately passed away despite their efforts. Despite holding a high-paying position at Citizen TV and enjoying a successful career in international reporting, the burden of his father’s treatment drained his finances.

Chamwada candidly admitted that, contrary to public perception of his wealth, he had no savings left. In fact, he was forced to sell his house to fund the launch of Chams Media, with only a phone and a laptop as his initial tools.

Fortunately, KTN News provided him with a platform for his program, giving him a much-needed opportunity to rebuild. Through determination and smart decisions, Chamwada was able to secure national television coverage and independently monetize his content. His show, Daring Abroad, which now airs on NTV in 2024, stands as proof of his remarkable comeback.

Today, Chams Media has grown into a leading media house, earning both national and international acclaim. Chamwada’s inspiring journey from financial hardship to realizing his dreams is a powerful testament to his resilience and unwavering determination. Congratulations to Alex Chamwada on his extraordinary achievements.
