In Mombasa, a man named Boniface Nawate is seeking forgiveness from the court after committing a horrific act against his wife. The incident unfolded in the Mzungu Mchafu area in the Likoni sub-county, leading to Nawate’s arrest.
The conflict between Boniface Nawate and his wife, Hellen, began when she suspected him of having a secret affair with another woman. As their argument escalated, tensions reached a boiling point, prompting Nawate to resort to violence. He seized a kitchen knife and inflicted severe harm on his wife.
Following the assault, Nawate forcibly took his injured wife into their bedroom and locked her in. The police intervened, arresting him and bringing him before Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Gladys Ollimo. In the court appearance, Nawate pleaded guilty to charges of willfully and unlawfully assaulting his wife, admitting to stabbing and cutting off her three fingers using the kitchen knife.
The charges outlined the incident on November 8 of this year, stating that Nawate assaulted Hellen Kangecha, causing actual bodily harm. In his plea for leniency, Nawate expressed remorse, acknowledging his role as the family’s breadwinner. He appealed to the court, highlighting the potential hardship his family would face if he were to be imprisoned.
The court has scheduled the sentencing for November 21, 2023, after mentioning the matter.
