Beatrice Khamadi, a resident of Nairobi, is currently grappling with the profound sorrow of losing her daughter, Sharon, in Saudi Arabia. As a mother of three, Khamadi now bears the weight of an irreplaceable void.
Sharon, a diligent and affectionate daughter, embarked on a journey to Saudi Arabia, seeking better opportunities and prospects for herself and her family.
Motivated by a desire to alleviate the burdens on her mother and provide for her own son, Sharon made the difficult decision to leave her family behind, despite Khamadi’s warnings.
Despite Khamadi’s counsel, Sharon remained steadfast in her belief that seeking opportunities abroad could make a positive difference for her family.
Regrettably, Sharon’s aspirations were tragically cut short. Just a year after her departure, the family received the heart-wrenching news of her untimely demise.
Speaking with tearful eyes, Khamadi recounted advising Sharon to let her handle the hardships and be the primary provider for the family. Despite Khamadi’s plea, Sharon, inspired by her mother’s past struggles, insisted on being the one to leave home.
“I had warned her and asked her to let me be the one to work hard to care for them. She said I had been good to them, and she had seen my suffering and would rather be the one to leave home and not her,” Khamadi shared in an interview with TUKO.CO.KE.
The family’s hopes for a better life for Sharon quickly faded as she encountered challenges in Saudi Arabia. Within a few months, Sharon confided in her sister about mistreatment by her employer, expressing her exhaustion and a longing to escape.
A poignant photograph sent to her sister captured the toll that these hardships had taken on Sharon’s health.
Residing in the Kibera slums, the family had anticipated that Sharon’s journey to Saudi Arabia would usher in positive change. Instead, they were confronted with the painful reality of a loved one returning not in triumph but in a coffin, with the cause of her death shrouded in mystery.
