Premier League Top Scorer Haaland to miss Brighton clash, says Guardiola

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Erling Haaland will sit out the upcoming clash against Brighton on Thursday. Haaland’s absence follows his exclusion from the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea last Saturday due to a muscle issue sustained during the Champions League match against Real Madrid.

Guardiola assured that Haaland’s condition is not severe, hinting at a possible return for the prolific striker in Sunday’s game against Nottingham Forest. However, he emphasized the readiness of Phil Foden and John Stones for the upcoming fixture.

“Erling won’t be ready for tomorrow, but the other two are prepared,” Guardiola clarified during Wednesday’s press briefing.

While City have enjoyed a brief respite following their intense encounter at Wembley, Guardiola hinted at possible squad rotation but emphasized the importance of every player’s role.

“Each player deserves their chance,” he asserted. “Everyone contributes to the team, and with a few days since our last game against Chelsea, we have options to consider.”

City currently trail leaders Arsenal by four points with two games in hand, while second-placed Liverpool contend with the Merseyside derby on Wednesday. Guardiola remains focused on the title race, dismissing any notion of complacency or excessive squad rotation.

“The destiny of the title is within our control,” Guardiola affirmed. “We won’t lose sight of our goal, and I have no intention of rotating key players excessively in this midweek fixture.”
