Policewoman Arrested For Shooting A 19-Year-Old Boy in Kirinyaga County

A police officer has been arrested for allegedly fatally shooting a 19-year-old at the Kiandai retail complex in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County.

Outraged family members, including the deceased’s aunt Sicily Wangu, and villagers from Kiandai, gathered at the Kianyaga police station demanding an explanation for the incident.

“We have been told Derrick was killed by police officers from this station, and we want to know why,” Wangu stated.

Jane Muthoni, the deceased’s grandmother, wept uncontrollably upon seeing her grandson’s body. She mentioned that she had been taking care of Derrick since his mother passed away in 2008.

“Derrick Gachoki completed Form Four last year, and I had been looking after him. Why have they decided to take his life?” Muthoni questioned.

Kirinyaga Police Commander Andrew Naibei confirmed the incident, stating that a female officer from the Kianyaga police station had been arrested.

“Police officers were on patrol last night when the incident occurred, and we have launched an investigation to ensure the family receives justice. I have informed the chairman of the security committee in the county. Please convey our condolences; this is very unfortunate,” Naibei said.

According to the deceased’s friend, Alex Njeru, police officers arrived at the Kiandai shopping center at about 11 a.m., where they were playing pool.
