muhoozi: I will be president after my father

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni’s son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced that he plans to run for president after his father. In a tweet, Gen Muhoozi also warned those who disagree with his plans that they are on the wrong path. This announcement comes after he deleted previous tweets in which he had stated that he could capture Nairobi in just one week.

Muhoozi has previously referred to himself as a “standby generator” for his father and has stated that he will only run for president if his father allows him to do so. He has also mentioned that his decision to run is motivated by his desire to please his mother.

His spokesperson, Andrew Mwenda, has echoed these sentiments, saying that Muhoozi’s potential run for president in 2026 will depend on his father’s approval. Mwenda also clarified that Muhoozi is not in competition with his father, but rather with Kizza Besigye and Bobi Wine, who are long-time unsuccessful presidential candidates and opposition leaders respectively.
