A 26-year-old woman, identified as Lucy Nyawira from Mathioya, has encountered a challenging situation after her attempt to abscond with Ksh 3 million from 76-year-old Kennedy Kimani hit an unexpected hurdle, as new details have come to light.
It has been revealed that Lucy Nyawira, upon realizing that her elderly neighbor had recently received a substantial bonus from tea sales, took advantage of his inebriation to pilfer the money. However, her plan took an unforeseen turn.
Kennedy Kimani, the victim in this case, recounted that around 11:00 am on a Sunday, he received a call from his close friend Kamande wa Nyamu, inviting him to a popular club in Nyeri town for an evening of enjoyment.
Unbeknownst to them, Lucy was surreptitiously tailing their every move, even inside the club where they were indulging in drinks.
Kennedy explained that as they became increasingly intoxicated, he and Kamande decided to take a break in the VIP area of the club. It was at this juncture that Lucy seized the opportunity to act.
“Lucy approached, feigning that the waiter had requested payment. I handed her my phone with my Equitel line and instructed her to dial the Equitel Ussd to deduct the amount we had spent, trusting her as my neighbor to assist us and take care of the situation,” Kennedy stated.
“Contrary to my expectations of Lucy being a good neighbor, she proceeded to transfer the entire Ksh 3 million from my account to her friends’ bank accounts to make a discreet escape,” he added.
Kennedy lamented, “On Sunday evening, as we began to regain sobriety, we decided to have a bottle of beer each. However, when it came time to settle the bill, I was stunned to find my account completely drained.”
“I was on the verge of collapsing; my blood pressure soared. I was in a state of panic, but my friend Kamande came to my aid.”
Amidst his distress, Kennedy was overheard cursing, “Huyu atawai mwimbia Mwingine” (This one will never deceive another).
