Why MC Mary Njambi Koikai Will Be Buried at Lang’ata Cemetery and Not on Their Rural Land

The family of the late reggae MC Mary Njambi Koikai, affectionately known as Fyah Mummah Jahmby Koikai, has decided to lay her to rest at Lang’ata Cemetery instead of their rural land. This decision reflects the family’s ongoing struggle with the profound pain of her passing.

Njambi Koikai succumbed to endometriosis after battling the disease for over two decades, starting at the tender age of 13. Speaking publicly for the first time since her passing, Njambi’s father explained the reasoning behind this significant decision.

He revealed that the family chose Lang’ata Cemetery to honor a sentimental family tradition and to be near her grandmother, who is also buried there. “The family saw it fitting to bury her at Lang’ata Cemetery because that is where her grandmother was buried. She will be laid to rest on Friday, June 14,” he stated.

Additionally, the choice of Lang’ata Cemetery over their rural land was influenced by practical considerations. Located in Nairobi, Lang’ata Cemetery is more accessible for friends, family, and fans who wish to pay their final respects.

Given Njambi’s prominence and the outpouring of support from her fans, the family felt it was essential to choose a location that could accommodate the anticipated number of mourners.

In their time of grief, Njambi’s family has reached out to the public for assistance, seeking to raise KSh 3 million to cover her medical expenses and funeral arrangements. “The bill is about KSh 3 million for her medical debts and plans to lay her to rest,” said her father.

Njambi’s father also took the opportunity to praise his daughter’s resilience and dedication, despite her long-term suffering. “It was heartbreaking to witness my daughter’s suffering and observe the doctors’ tireless efforts to help her. Despite their best attempts, she could not be cured. Jahmby was incredibly dedicated. Once she set her mind on a goal, she pursued it with unwavering determination and diligence. Her work ethic was truly exceptional.”
