Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared that he will still contest in the next election despite the political battles surrounding his removal from office.
Speaking during a public address, Gachagua insisted that he will appear on the ballot in the next general election, saying that his political ambitions remain intact regardless of the circumstances that led to his impeachment.
He also mentioned Kawira Mwangaza, the former Meru governor, stating that she too will be on the ballot in the upcoming elections.
According to Gachagua, being impeached does not mean the end of their political careers. He maintained that both of them still have the constitutional right to seek elective positions and will exercise that right when the time comes.
“I will be on the ballot, and Kawira Mwangaza will also be on the ballot. Even if we were impeached, we will still be on the ballot. Whether they like it or not, we must be on the ballot,” Gachagua stated.
The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in the country as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general election. Gachagua has recently intensified his political engagements across various regions while criticizing the current administration led by President William Ruto.
His comments signal that he intends to remain active in national politics despite the challenges he has faced in recent months.
