Mugithi artist DJ Fatxo recently shared the reasons behind his decision to get his ears pierced, despite the prevalent stereotype that associates ear piercings on men with being gay.
During an interview on Obinna’s Kula Cooler show, Fatxo revealed that prior to gaining recognition for his involvement in Jeff Mwathi’s untimely passing a few months ago, he had never contemplated getting a tattoo or piercing his ears.
Fatxo explained, “Within our culture, the act of getting a tattoo or having one’s ears pierced holds significant meaning. It is a profound decision for us.” He went on to express his concerns about the prevailing perception in his country that associates men with pierced ears as being gay.
The artist confessed that he had refrained from piercing his ears due to the fear of being labeled as gay. However, following Jeff’s tragic death, Fatxo found himself unjustly accused of involvement in the incident and even faced unfounded rumors questioning his sexuality.
“I spent so long trying to protect myself from such accusations, and then suddenly, I’m labeled something that I have never been in my entire life. In truth, I got my ears pierced,” Fatxo shared, expressing his frustration.
Fatxo firmly emphasized that he is not gay and has never engaged in homosexuality. He openly revealed that he is currently in a committed relationship with a beautiful woman and has been with her for two years.
He challenged those who doubted his sexual orientation, urging them to examine him closely and ask themselves if he appeared gay. “I am not gay. Look at me attentively. Can you honestly say that I resemble a gay man? I would like those who make such claims to name one person whom I have ever seduced. I am not gay, and I cannot be gay… I am happily involved with a remarkable woman, and our relationship has flourished for two years,” Fatxo asserted confidently.
