NARC–Kenya party leader Martha Karua has sparked reactions after claiming that President William Ruto might one day abandon his UDA party and join ODM to safeguard his political future.
Speaking during a political engagement, Karua said Kenyan politics is full of unexpected twists, and Ruto’s recent moves suggest he could easily shift alliances if it benefits him politically.
“I will not be surprised if Ruto abandons his UDA Party and jumps onto ODM for his dear political life!” Karua declared, drawing laughter and applause from the audience.
Karua argued that Ruto has shown signs of desperation in maintaining political control and could be willing to form alliances even with former rivals to survive politically. She noted that Kenya’s political history is full of similar cases where leaders switch parties or forge new coalitions when power dynamics shift.
Her remarks come amid growing political tension and speculation about possible realignments following the death of Raila Odinga, which has left a vacuum in the opposition landscape. Analysts suggest that with succession politics taking shape, new alliances could emerge across traditional party lines.
Karua’s comments have since ignited debate online, with supporters of the ruling party dismissing her claims as baseless, while others argue that her prediction reflects the fluid nature of Kenyan politics.
As political temperatures rise, Kenyans are watching closely to see how the country’s major players reposition themselves ahead of the next general election.
