Police in Kandara, Murang’a County, have arrested a woman who went missing on Sunday with her three-month-old baby but later resurfaced without the child.
According to relatives, the woman later confessed to strangling the infant and disposing of the body in a pit latrine at Gacharage Primary School. Police retrieved the body, which has since been taken to the morgue.
The suspect is currently being held at Kandara Police Station and is expected to be processed and arraigned in court.
Reacting to the incident, Evangelist Mercy Nungari suggested that the suspect should undergo medical evaluation, noting that she could be suffering from postpartum depression.
The tragic case has left the community in shock, with many questioning why a parent would harm their own child. Religious leaders and residents have urged families to be more vigilant and supportive of new mothers who may be experiencing emotional or mental health struggles.
Authorities have called for patience as investigations continue, even as the family mourns the heartbreaking loss of the young child.
