When sailors did a song with KRG The Don ,’Nyandus’,walilipwa na nyama na Tei. Mwalimu Rachel reveals

Radio personality Mwalimu Rachel has raised concerns about rapper Octopizzo’s failure to compensate Sailors Gang with royalties for their joint song, “Wakiritho.”

In a recent interview on the Mic Cheque podcast, Mwalimu Rachel shed light on her managerial role with Sailors Gang, disclosing allegations of exploitation within the music industry.

According to Mwalimu Rachel, the collaborations with KRG the Don and Octopizzo did not result in financial gains for Sailors Gang. She openly admitted that, like others, she only became aware of the “Wakiritho” song after its release and was unaware of the recording and shooting process.

“I came to see this song, video, and the one they did with Octo, ‘Wakiritho,’ just like everyone else in the room. The boys went and did a song with Octopizzo, shot the video—no spreadsheets, no nothing,” Rachel stated.

Mwalimu Rachel emphasized that Sailors Gang had initially discussed the collaboration deal with her, and she found the idea promising. However, she revealed that she advised them to involve management, but the group grew impatient and proceeded without informing her.

“These boys came to me and said they wanted to go to the studio with Octo. I told them it’s a good idea, I see potential in it, in fact, we already have this song, etc. I said okay, but let management handle it. We had started, but they got impatient. Their mentality was fixed on getting the song immediately, arranging it on their own, making the song, shooting the video. I came to see it like everyone else,” she explained.

Mwalimu Rachel asserted that the high-profile collaboration with Octopizzo did not generate any royalties for Sailors Gang, attributing it to their lack of experience and impatience while entering into the deal.
