Ugandan Man Arrested For Killing Employer In Kirinyaga County

A Ugandan national has been arrested in connection with the brutal murder of his employer in Kombo-ini village, Kirinyaga County.

Kirinyaga County Investigation Officer Jason Mworia stated that authorities had been searching for the suspect since November 3, 2023. The suspect was accused of murdering a 64-year-old woman who had employed him as a Shamba Boy.

According to Mworia, officers apprehended Phillipino Muifi in Nakuru following a months-long pursuit.

Muifi, who had been hiding for over seven months, was arrested at Kiamaciri police station in the Mwea-West sub-county. He is expected to be transported to court and charged with murder. Police reported that he fled with the deceased’s phone, which was later found at his aunt’s home in Nairobi.

Mworia mentioned that officers also apprehended the suspect’s aunt, who promised to help locate Muifi.

“After taking her to court, we were allowed to hold her as we continued the investigation, and she managed to convince him to return to Kenya with the promise of a job, leading to his capture in Nakuru,” Mworia said.

The Ugandan agricultural laborer is suspected of murdering his employer, Rose Muthoni Kariuki, whose body was discovered by a neighbor who promptly alerted authorities.

Police are still detaining the suspect’s aunt, who might become a state witness. Muthoni had lived in Kombo-ini village for over five years.
