The Akatsas: Kenyans Who Left the Country to Serve God in the US

As Kenyans embark on journeys seeking better prospects abroad, many pursue opportunities for personal advancement. However, Dr. Pauline Akatsa and her husband, Pastor Nandy Akatsa, felt a distinct calling—to travel to the United States with a mission to spread their faith.

Originally running a church in Westlands, the couple’s first visit to the US in 1995 on a travel visa sparked a divine revelation. Dr. Pauline Akatsa, a multifaceted professional holding titles such as emotional health coach, author, inspirational speaker, and leadership and development coach, recalls sensing God’s call to establish a church during this trip.

Acting on this vision, Pastor Nandy Akatsa consulted their pastor at the time, Bishop JB Masinde, who blessed their mission. With his support, they embarked on a new chapter, returning to American soil to fulfill their divine purpose.

Their journey led them to Ohio initially, where Dr. Akatsa’s younger brother resided. However, through prayer and prophetic guidance, they discerned that Houston was their intended destination.

Upon settling in Houston, Pastor Nandy Akatsa applied for a Green Card through the DV lottery program, securing permanent residency in the US. This milestone further ignited their passion for spreading the gospel.

Reflecting on their journey, Dr. Akatsa recalls the unique composition of their church elders, primarily comprising single individuals and university students, setting them apart within their community.

In 2012, sensing a shift in season, the Akatsas adapted their ministry approach to better serve their evolving community, embracing a holistic approach to outreach.

After two decades of faithful service, the Akatsas decided to commemorate their journey by organizing a couples’ dinner. This event aimed to provide a reprieve for individuals in the diaspora facing various challenges, offering an evening of camaraderie, good food, music, and entertainment.

Scheduled for Friday, April 19, the couple eagerly anticipates the much-awaited dinner, viewing it as an opportunity to celebrate God’s goodness and faithfulness throughout their journey.
