Social media was flooded with rumors that vocal COTU boss, Francis Atwoli, had secretly married a 23-year-old Muslim woman in a private wedding held at the Coast.
Gossip about Atwoli’s supposed marriage with the Muslim woman were circulated on Twitter by local TV personality Jamilla Mbugua, starting a warmed discussion online.
Jamilla affirmed that Atwoli chose to reward himself with another ‘gachungwa’ on his birthday.
Mzee Atwoli has come out to refuse the bits of rumors and clarified that he has not married another wife.
Atwoli however said that he sees no issue regardless of whether he chooses to wed another spouse, adding that he isn’t the kind of man who weds in secret.
The 72-year-old trade unionist said he was at the Coast with his energetic wife Mary Kilobi when the rumors spread on the web.
“That is a lazy rumour from some idle Kenyan. I was at the coast with my wife Mary (Kilobi Atwoli).
“In any case, there is no problem in marrying but if I have to do that I do it publicly not hiding from anyone,” Atwoli said.
