Kakamega residents remain in shock after a 20-year-old woman fatally stabbed her brother over a mattress. The altercation occurred when Oscar Shioso allegedly damaged the mattress that his sister, Margaret, was supposed to use.
Catherine Chimanwa, the deceased’s wife, recounted a conversation with Margaret after the incident. According to Chimanwa, Margaret downplayed the severity of her actions, stating, “I told her this is your brother and you could have just beaten him up because a mattress costs only Sh 2000, but she said that she has not done much damage and the knife has not hurt him because he is still breathing.”
Family sources indicate that the siblings had a strained relationship, partly due to Oscar’s involvement with a police officer stationed at the Shiongo patrol base.
Margaret is currently in custody to assist with the investigation, and the body of the deceased has been taken to Kakamega County Mortuary.
