Sasa mtapiga sherehe wapi hii december?Nairobi’s popular 1824 club shuts down

The renowned Nairobi club, 1824, has officially ceased operations at its Lang’ata Road location. A reliable source from the entertainment venue has confirmed that the closure stems from a disagreement between the owner and the landlord, although the specific details of the dispute remain undisclosed. The closure has left the public in the dark regarding the exact reasons behind this sudden development.

Social media platforms have been flooded with videos and images depicting the club’s closure, creating confusion among many. Earlier in the day, a significant police presence was noted at the establishment as workers dismantled furniture, indicating a systematic shutdown process.

Additional insider information from the club suggests that there are plans to reopen at a different location, although specific timelines for this reemergence are yet to be made public.

Notably, the club had recently come under the scrutiny of both the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commissions (EACC). The owner, identified as a junior staff member of the Nairobi County government, became the subject of an investigation concerning the accumulation of illicit and unexplained wealth. The EACC had issued orders to freeze a substantial amount of Sh48 million held by Wilson Nashon Kanani, an employee of the County Government of Nairobi.

Further complicating matters, in November 2022, law enforcement conducted a raid on the entertainment establishment as part of a crackdown on clubs situated in residential areas within Nairobi. The county government had accused the club of violating regulations by playing loud music beyond the permissible hours, particularly past 10 pm. The convergence of these legal and regulatory challenges has ultimately led to the closure of the once-popular club at its Lang’ata Road premises.
