Sam Gituku: Illustrious Career And Life Of 34 Year Old Citizen TV Journalist Known For Pinning His Guests

Sam Gituku, a well-known Kenyan journalist, has established himself as a fixture on Citizen TV. Recognized for his journalistic prowess and hard work, he earned the title of Young Journalist of the Year from the Media Council of Kenya in 2014.

In addition to his role as a news anchor, Gituku contributes to Royal Media Services’ digital platform, covering political and human interest stories. Known for his excellent interviewing skills, he has engaged with numerous politicians, posing tough questions and gaining attention for his compelling interviews.

One notable interview that gained traction was his conversations with Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru and current President William Ruto. The intensity of the questions led to a memorable moment when Governor Waiguru snapped at him.

Sam Gituku was born on August 14, 1989, and holds a Diploma in Accounting from Excel Institute of Professional Studies (graduated in 2008) and a Bachelor of Science in Information Studies from Moi University.

His journey in journalism included serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Horizon Magazine and as a program host and news presenter at Moi University’s MU FM from August 2010 to April 2011. Gituku also chaired the Moi University Catholic Students Association.

In 2015, he earned a Masters in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi alongside other media personalities.

Starting his career with Royal Media Services in November 2014, Gituku worked as a reporter for Citizen TV. His coverage of the Garissa University Al-Shabaab attack received acclaim for its accuracy and professionalism.

With over seven years of experience, Sam Gituku specializes in news coverage, research, and production, presenting and anchoring news on various topics, including politics, human interest, and crime stories.

In 2019, Gituku married his longtime girlfriend, Ivy Waitherero, in a beautiful ceremony at Deliverance Church, Lang’ata, attended by notable media personalities. His wife also works at Citizen TV as a news director.

Known for his explosive and bold interviews, Gituku confronted President William Ruto with hard-hitting, well-researched questions, such as the housing levy issue that turned into a tax. An excerpt from one such interview highlighted the precision and persistence in his questioning, exemplified by the exchange with Ruto on the amount collected for the housing project. Another instance involved challenging the then Trade CS Moses Kuria on the cost of cooking oil.
