Nairobi authorities are investigating the mysterious death of 35-year-old engineer, Sammy Kyengo, whose body was found hidden inside a water sump at the Talanta City Stadium construction site in Jamhuri.
Kyengo had been missing since August 22, 2025, and was discovered nearly three weeks later by casual workers preparing the site for plastering. Police reports indicated visible injuries on the back of his head and neck, with blood also found oozing from his mouth and nose—signs that point to foul play. Detectives believe he may have been attacked and later concealed beneath boards and construction materials to delay discovery.
His wife, Christine Kyengo, recounted that her husband had left home that day to demand his unpaid salary, which had allegedly been withheld since July. That was the last time she saw him, prompting her to file a missing person’s report when he failed to return.
The shocking discovery has unsettled both workers and residents, with colleagues expressing disbelief that a body had been hidden so close to their daily work environment. The remains have since been moved to the Nairobi City Mortuary for post-mortem examination as detectives pursue multiple leads to establish the motive.
Kyengo’s death has left his family in anguish, with calls mounting for swift justice and accountability. For many, the tragedy raises troubling questions about the safety of workers and the darker realities surrounding unpaid labor disputes in Kenya’s construction sector.
