Revealed: Why Comedian Oga Obinna left KISS FM breakfast show to make millions on Youtube

Months after leaving the Kiss FM breakfast show, Kenyan comedian Oga Obinna has found significant success with his YouTube channel.

Obinna, renowned for his comedic talent, has openly admitted to prioritizing financial gain over passion. This was a key factor in his decision to depart from Kiss FM, as revealed in a past conversation.

The financial motivation behind his departure became clear when Obinna responded to a lighthearted comment from fellow comedian Eddie Butita on Instagram. Butita expressed interest in replacing Obinna on The Morning Kiss breakfast show, even specifying his desired salary for the role.

“Dear @kiss100kenya, do you offer 1 million per month? Price is not negotiable #ikokazikenya,” Butita wrote.

In his response, Obinna disclosed that he had also requested a similar salary, which was not approved.

“I also wanted the same amount but it didn’t work out… lower the figure a bit, the economy is tough. Settle for around 700k. All the best,” Obinna replied.

When asked if he would consider returning to radio, Obinna shared that while radio was once his passion, he now views it primarily as a means of making money.

“If I get another opportunity on radio, I will do any show, whether breakfast or drive, for the money. It used to be for the love, but we can’t provide for our children with love alone; it’s for the money,” he explained.

Currently, Obinna’s YouTube channel is thriving, with reports indicating that he earns millions from his weekly Monday show. He has featured notable personalities from various sectors in Kenya, including politicians, fellow comedians, and musicians.
