Remember Former Tahidi High Actor OJ, Here Is What Happened To His Life After The Show

Former Tahidi High actor Dennis Mugo, popularly known as OJ, has opened up about his long battle with alcohol addiction and the emotional struggles he faced growing up without a father. His revelations have sparked conversations about mental health, healing, and the unseen challenges celebrities face behind the spotlight.

Speaking on Glow Up with Makena, OJ shared that he has never met his biological father, despite several men at different times claiming to be him.

“Even if he comes now, I would tell him I am okay without him,” he said. “The problem with being in the limelight is you never know who is real. I have seen people come and claim they are my dad. My mum told me not to bother looking for him.”

Mugo was raised by his mother, a woman he says he deeply appreciates for holding the family together during difficult times.

Rise to Fame and the Downward Spiral

OJ became a household name for his role as the rebellious “bad boy” in the popular high-school drama Tahidi High. Beyond acting, he also worked behind the scenes as part of the technical team and at times served as an assistant director.

At the height of the show’s popularity, OJ was one of the most admired young actors in Kenya. However, fame came with pressure, and soon rumours began circulating that he was struggling with alcohol abuse.

Mugo has now confirmed that his addiction grew worse over time, eventually costing him his role on the show and almost destroying his career.

Impact on His Personal Life

OJ revealed that his addiction took a heavy toll on his family. He fell into depression, and his marriage broke down as a result of his alcoholism. His wife eventually left, taking their son, Ethan.

“The fame only made it worse,” he admitted. “I was depressed, drinking heavily, and losing control of my life.”

He has since worked hard to rebuild himself and reconnect with his son, whom he regularly praises as his biggest motivation.

Clarifying Past Relationships

OJ clarified that he was not married to Sarah Hassan (Tanya), his on-screen love interest in Tahidi High. Their relationship was purely acting. He later dated fellow cast member Diana Kiamba (Isabel), but the relationship did not last.

Today, OJ is focused on personal growth, recovery, and being present for his son, Ethan.
