Househelp burns 6-year-old boy’s ‘privates’ for wetting his bed in  Taita Taveta

Authorities stationed at Tarasaa Police Station in Taita Taveta County are currently detaining a 34-year-old woman on allegations of assaulting her six-year-old relative.

According to a police statement, the accused, identified as Zawadi Mlewa, purportedly assaulted her cousin, Alex John Mencha, on Friday, March 29.

The report states that at approximately 7:00 AM, Zawadi Mlewa, aged 34, allegedly burned the private parts of her six-year-old cousin, Alex John Mencha, using ignited papers, purportedly as punishment for bedwetting. As a result, the child sustained burns on the base of his penis.

Following the incident, the child was left in the care of his aunt, Bahati John, and cousin, as his mother, Linah John, is employed in Saudi Arabia.

After the assault, Zawadi took the victim to Tarasaa Catholic Dispensary for medical attention, where he was treated and subsequently discharged. Subsequently, the child was referred to Ngao Sub-County Hospital for further examination, during which a P3 form was issued.

The matter was reported to Tarasaa Police Station, leading to the apprehension of the suspect, Zawadi.

Zawadi will be held in police custody until the upcoming Tuesday, pending her arraignment in court.
