Stephen Otieno Adera, better known as Stivo Simple Boy, serves as a compelling embodiment of the adage “there is light at the end of the tunnel.” Originating from a modest upbringing in Homabay, he has now transitioned into a prosperous musician, amassing considerable wealth through his musical endeavors.
Stivo Simple Boy’s roots trace back to Oyugis, Homabay County, where he was born in 1990. His educational journey commenced in Homabay, extending until class seven. However, circumstances led his family to relocate to Nairobi’s Kibera Slums, where he concluded his primary education, regrettably discontinuing his academic pursuits thereafter. Financial constraints prevented him from proceeding to high school, and his revelation of being a slow learner underscored the disconnection between him and formal education.
Post his departure from the educational system, Stivo embarked on a journey of self-sustenance. His inaugural occupation involved working as a security personnel for a company, an engagement that spanned two years. Unfortunately, an incident involving theft during his watch led to his dismissal alongside his assistant.
Subsequently, Stivo ventured into the construction industry, spending three years laboring in the Mjengo field in Kibera. This phase served as a precursor to his breakthrough in the music industry.
Stivo Simple Boy’s affinity for singing dates back to his early years, with his love for Kiswahili reflected in the incorporation of Swahili vocabularies into his songs. Even during his tenure as a Mjengo worker, he continued to express his musical passion, giving birth to his renowned track “Mihadharati.”
The turning point in Stivo’s career occurred approximately two years after the release of “Mihadharati” when he appeared on Chipukeezy’s show on Ebru TV in 2019. The song gained immense popularity, with audiences appreciating his lyrical prowess while others engaged in superficial critiques of his appearance. This marked the inception of Stivo Simple Boy’s ascent to fame.
Despite facing humiliation from his previous management, accused of mishandling his finances, Stivo exhibited resilience. A new management team intervened, providing him with the support he needed. Hits like “Freshi Barida” contributed to his growing success, securing numerous lucrative opportunities. In an interview with presenter Ali, Stivo attested to his newfound financial stability.
A significant milestone in Stivo’s financial journey was the Odi bet deal, which reportedly netted him Ksh. 500,000. This windfall enabled him to build a house for his parents. Throughout 2022, Stivo participated in various gigs and secured deals exceeding Ksh. 500,000, elevating him to the status of a prosperous and renowned celebrity in Kenya.
