Three Bodies Retrieved From Mathare River, Death Toll Rises To 13

Thursday morning saw the recovery of three additional bodies from Mathare River in Nairobi County, bringing the total death toll to 13 individuals. Among the deceased were two men and a female teenager.

According to Fred Abuga, the police chief of Starahe, a collaborative search effort conducted by the Nairobi County Government and the Kenya Red Cross is currently underway.

This grim discovery follows the retrieval of ten bodies from the river the previous day, following intense rainfall in Nairobi on Tuesday evening. At that time, Abuga had reported eight individuals as missing.

The heavy downpour on Tuesday night led to flash floods affecting various parts of Nairobi, including Mukuru, Mathare, Huruma, Ruaraka, Baba Dogo, Bosnia, Umoja 3, Choka, Njiru, Ruai, Utawala, Githurai, Kahawa, Eastern Bypass, Kinoo, Kijabe, Limuru, Ruiru, Graceland, Joska, Kaswito, Kicheko, Mangili, Kenyatta Road, Juja, Kitengela, and Magadi.
