According to reports, Anne Waiguru, the United Democratic Alliance governor aspirant for Kirinyaga has been defeated by independent candidate Purity Ngirici.
Taking to her Twitter account, Martha Karua congratulated Purity Ngirici for winning Kirinyaga gubernatorial seat.
Anne Waiguru had claimed that there was scheme to rig the gubernatorial election.
Waiguru claimed that more ballot boxes containing ballot papers were passed through the back door to the tallying area, an act she deems to be daylight rigging for which she requests that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) delay vote counting.
“They want to rig in broad daylight? Two voting boxes with governors’ ballots enter Kianyaga in broad daylight through the back door. They must be removed, and the counting must cease!” Waiguru had said.
The outgoing senator of Kirinyaga, Charles Kiburu, was in the race but conceded early to Waiguru and Ngirici.
Muriithi Kagai, the Azimio One Kenya candidate who stepped down for Kibiru, backed him. Kagai was vying on a NARC-Kenya ticket.
