Kiminini police have launched a manhunt for a man who attacked his mother-in-law and burnt her mattress and clothes then destroyed some of her electronics.
It is reported that the man identified as Amos Wanjala, from Sango Village, Trans Nzoia county stormed the home of Mercyline Wanjama at 11 pm and attacked her.
“He burnt the items outside my house,” she said.The suspect, thereafter, fled to an unknown destination,” the area police said.
“Once we arrest him, we will charge him with the offence of malicious damage to property,” Kiminini OCPD Francis Tumbo said.
Though it still remains unclear what led Amos to commit the crime, it is reported that maybe he was in search of revenge after his wife left him few days ago.
Village elders condemned the act saying that it is against their customs for a son or daughter to attack the parents.
“It is against our Bukusu culture to harm a parent-in-law or destroy his or her property,” one of the elders identified as Barasa said.
They also added that Amos will be fined a goat and cleansing rituals done too prevent a calamity f to m befalling the family.
