“Haturudi Nairobi”- Murang’a Travellers Say After Matatus Hike Fare To Sh 2,000.

Nairobians who had visited their families in various parts of Murang’a County have now vowed not to return to the capital after matatu business operators hiked fare to a whopping Sh 2,000.

The travelers lamented saying that the current fare hike is nothing that they have ever heard of adding that the operators are just being too greedy.

The travelers also added that the same operators who are hiking the transport fee are the same who after January beg travelers to board their vehicles for less that Ksh 200 for a trip from Nairobi.

“I came here at 12 noon, at that time they were asking for Sh 1,500 so I thought it wise to wait and see if they will lower it. Now it’s almost six hours and the fare has gone up to Sh 2,500 with a bargain of Sh 2,300,” Sarah Njambi, one oof the traveller’s said.

However, the drivers and conductors who spoke to us said that this is their time to ‘eat’ seeing that last December there were no travelers.

“This is our time to make a kill, if we don’t hike the fare, we will have to wait until next christmas. There are too many customers,” one of the drivers said.

Now, the travelers have vowed not to travel back to Nairobi until the transport money is lowered atleast by half or at a friendly fee.
