The Fenty brand of beauty products has enlisted the Kenyan musician Nikita Kering as its ambassador. The brand, owned by American singer and businesswoman Rihanna, has launched simultaneously in seven African countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
Kering expressed her excitement in an Instagram post, stating, “Kenya! It’s happening, I’m so glad to be heading this campaign in Kenya while rocking my Fenty favs.” The launch event at the Hub in Karen was attended by notable individuals such as Sauti Sols band member Chimano and fashion stylist Lady Mandy.
Since its inception in 2017, Fenty has become a massive success, worth $2.8 billion according to Cosmopolitan magazine. Rihanna herself is valued at an estimated $1.7 billion. In September 2020, Kenyan internet sensation Elsa Majimbo signed on to promote the brand.
By expanding to African markets, Fenty is creating new opportunities for local artists and influencers to work with a global brand. The collaboration with Kering highlights the potential for African representation in the beauty industry, bringing new perspectives and diversity to the forefront.
