Ephantus Safari, the former husband of Kawira, known for her role in the TV series “Papa Shirandula,” recently opened up about the dissolution of their marriage. In an interview with Presenter Ali, he shared the story of their relationship’s rise and fall.
Their journey began in 2013 when they crossed paths at an event held at St. Andrews in Nairobi. Ephantus was on the lookout for an MC who could connect with children effectively. What caught his attention was Kawira’s demeanor behind the stage. Impressed by her character, he offered her a ride home after the event. What particularly drew him to her was her refusal to divulge the location of her house, which he interpreted as a sign of strong principles. It was then that he made the fateful decision to have her as the mother of his future children, albeit not specifying the desire for a wife.
Following this realization, Ephantus embarked on a pursuit to win her heart, culminating in a grand wedding. They initially planned to enjoy two childless years together, though this decision was met with challenges, as societal assumptions suggested fertility issues. Their first pregnancy ended in a blighted ovum, with medical advice favoring termination.
However, their fortunes improved when they later conceived triplets, though one of them tragically passed away at six months old. Difficulties arose when Kawira requested her mother to come live with them. Traditional norms clashed with this choice, as their culture preferred the mother-in-law to visit rather than reside with the couple. After discussion, they decided that her mother would return to her own residence, with Ephantus and Kawira agreeing to provide support from a distance.
Ephantus described the day his wife left as a puzzling one. He returned home from the gym, only to find that she and the children were absent. She had even prepared his clothes and breakfast. The house had CCTV, but he couldn’t access it, assuming there was a power outage. Instead of calling her, he chose to wait, suspecting that her intentions were unclear. It was only after a family friend advised him to contact her that he made the call, which went unanswered. Despite his continued support, she eventually blocked him on WhatsApp.
As a result of the marital troubles, Ephantus confessed to falling into depression. His emotional turmoil led him to turn to alcohol, though he avoided public places like bars due to his societal standing as a pastor. He sought solace and guidance from fellow pastors, friends, and relatives, but bitterness and resentment grew within him, directed at the people and the church.
Ultimately, Ephantus expressed that he has released his former spouse and wishes her happiness and a loving husband in her future. He sometimes reflects on whether their relationship’s rapid progression contributed to its downfall, acknowledging that he shares the blame for the failed marriage.
