Agnes Waringe, in her eulogy at his funeral, shared how they maintained peace by spending six months together in each other’s homes, strengthening their familial bond.
Makumi prioritized education for his children, ensuring they received top-tier education abroad. Despite his immense wealth, he remained grounded, often driving himself to oversee business operations in Tanzania rather than opting for air travel. One of his daughters, Wanjuhi Kinuthia, fondly remembered her father’s preference for road trips over flying, highlighting his humility despite his high status.
Makumi’s legacy also extended to his daughter, Wanjiku Kinuthia, who unsuccessfully contested the Kabete Constituency seat in the 2017 general elections. Wanjiku reflected on her father’s enduring legacy, emphasizing his commitment to building a lasting impact through his work, community contributions, and deep love for his family and country.
