Kenyan’s Celebrated Meme Creator, Leonard Omusula, Opens Up About His Life on the Streets

Leonard Omusula, the renowned meme creator from Kenya, who is widely recognized for his famous catchphrase ‘jina Jutaki,’ recently shed light on his journey that led him to the streets. During a candid interview, he shared the hardships he faced after losing his mother and having to live with his stepmother in Butere. He revealed that the relationship with his stepmother was not as close as it was with his biological mother, making it challenging for him to cope. Eventually, he made the difficult decision to leave home and seek refuge on the streets.

“Living with a stepmother proved to be a significant challenge,” Leonard confessed.

His life on the streets began in 2007, and since then, he has been living without a permanent home. In his appeal to the people of Kenya, he expressed the need for assistance to improve his situation.

“I humbly request for help in finding a job,” he said earnestly.

Leonard went on to describe the painful and unpredictable nature of homelessness, emphasizing the difficulty of making ends meet on his own. He revealed that not knowing what tomorrow holds adds to the burden of living on the streets.

The 43-year-old also reminisced about the interview that catapulted him to fame. It took place at Longonot Place on Kijabe Street, where they discussed alcohol abuse. Leonard explained that, at times, the lack of alternatives drives them to consume alcohol, as it is the most affordable option given their limited financial resources.

“We turn to alcohol because it’s often the only thing we can afford,” he shared honestly.

Leonard Omusula’s story sheds light on the challenges faced by many individuals living on the streets. His journey from a meme creator to a prominent figure offers an opportunity for people to extend their support and compassion to those experiencing homelessness in Kenya.
